Keshia Thomas Protecting A Suspected KKK Supporter From An Angry Mob

Keshia Thomas was still in high school when the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) held a rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1996. With hundreds of people showing up to oppose the Klan members, tensions were high between the two groups. So when a suspected supporter was spotted among the crowd, some resorted to chasing and shouting taunts at him.

But not Thomas. Seeing the man, who had the Confederate flag on his shirt, in distress, she came to his rescue and tried to protect him from the angry mob of anti-Klan protesters. This heroic moment was captured by student photographer Mark Brunner leading to this drama-filled image.
