United States Troops Storming Into “The Jaws Of Death” On D-Day
This ominous image is known as “Into The Jaws Of Death” taken by Robert F. Sargent during the landing of American forces on the beaches of Normandy on what became known as D-Day. Typically seen in black and white, this colorized version certainly adds more drama to the famous photo.
The contrast between the warm colors of the foreground with the gray and darkness of the background makes it look like these brave men were entering the jaws of death. Fortunately, their efforts were not for nothing, as the success of this mission laid the foundation for the Allied forces’ overall triumph during World War II.
