Jewish Prisoners Saved In The Nick Of Time

Just moments before this photo was taken in April 1945; these prisoners were aboard a train heading to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. It was in the middle of this journey that an infantry division of the United States Army interfered with their trip and rescued the 2,500 people being led to their demise.

According to Haaretz, the mission proved successful thanks to the leadership of Lt. Frank Winchester Towers, who saved the passengers in the nick of time. After the war, Towers was able to reconnect with over 300 of the people he saved that day via phone, email, and in-person communication.
