Now this one blew our minds! The “Taxi Driver” scene in which the deranged Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro) talks with himself in front of the mirror makes for one of the most iconic moments in cinema history. But DeNiro’s classic quote “You talkin’ to me?” wasn’t part of the script.
The screenwriter Paul Schrader created the scene simply by writing, “Bickle speaks to himself in the mirror.” It was up to the leading actor to make something out of it. Needless to say, DeNiro did his job so well that the improvised moment still makes for one of Hollywood’s brightest, most celebrated pieces of dialogue.
