The Truth About Togo: What They Didn’t Tell You About The Amazing Dog Hero Of The Serum Run

The Rest Of Togo’s Years

A dog’s lifespan on average lasts as long as 13 years. Togo lived well beyond that limit, as he was put to rest by Seppala himself in 1929 at the age of 16. He lived the rest of his years in peace and great conditions, partly thanks to the success and fame he achieved with his master because of the serum run.

Seppala’s success enabled him to start a Siberian dog shelter in partnership with Elizabeth Ricker in Maine. That was where Togo lived till his death. He was able to sire many offspring and pioneer a much sought-after breed of Siberian huskies.
