Baking Powder was born out of Love!

Who would have thought that the origin story of baking powder would be a romance? A couple of inventors have been motivated to design new things for the sake of their loved ones, and English chemist and food manufacturer Alfred Bird belongs on that list. His wife was allergic to eggs and yeast, so there could be no bread for breakfast.
While brainstorming on a type of bread that wouldn’t require those key ingredients, Bird was inspired to create an alternative, and he came up with the first form of baking powder. Food scientists have built on this discovery, availing us with three different types of baking powder to stock our pantries.
