Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Bernie Sanders first got a step into the political world as a mayor of Burlington, Vermont, where he served from 1981 to 1989. Next, Sanders set his sights on the House of Representatives and successfully secured a position in the House in 1991.
After serving until 2007, Sanders became the senator of Vermont and has held on to the position ever since. He also went on to occupy the chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs as a chairman, attempting to take care of the VA health care in 2014. His collective net worth in 2022 was $3 million.
