According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the band’s guitarist Keith Richards drew the idea of the song after seeing people flock for shelter during a sudden rain storm. As Richards described, he was sitting by the window with an acoustic guitar when the sky suddenly went black, and people ran for shelter. That was the germ that urged the band to produce a full-length masterpiece.
