Disorderly Conduct at Rio 2016 by Some American Swimmers

Rio 2016 remains infamous for being marred by disease outbreaks, protests, and political instability. However, the actions of American swimmers Ryan Lochte, Jimmy Feigen, Gunnar Bentz, and Jack Conger stole the spotlight. They claimed to have been robbed at knifepoint by “armed robbers posing as police.” The truth was far different.

In reality, they had gotten into a scuffle with bouncers at a gas station after allegedly vandalizing a poster and urinating outside the station’s bathroom during a night out. This incident embarrassed the athletes and added to the already chaotic atmosphere surrounding the Rio Games. Their fabricated story caused a media frenzy, overshadowing many other game events.
