Britney Spears’ career may have taken a back seat but she’s recently making headlines for another reason: her conservatory. The already tense and difficult battle just got even more complicated when her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, expressed her desire to have a hand in the issue.
Jamie Lynn’s Request
The ‘Toxic’ singer has found herself at the center of a controversy that stems from her conservatory that started in 2008. Now, Jamie Lynn wants to take more control of her big sis’ finances despite being a trustee since 2018.

According to the court filing, the Nickelodeon star is seeking to have funds moved to the Fidelity Brokerage Services accounts, wherein she would become the primary custodian. If this would be approved, a judge’s go-signal would be needed to release them.
Britney Spears’ Plea
In August, Britney asked the court for her father Jamie Spears to be removed as the sole conservator of her estate, also requesting that Jodi Montgomery take the position. The singer’s dad stepped down in September 2019 due to health reasons.

Since then, Jodi temporarily replaced the patriarch as the one in charge of Britney’s finances and practically every decision she makes. However, the judge denied the ‘Baby One More Time’ hitmaker’s plea.
Everything about the Conservatorship
Britney has enjoyed a very lucrative music career during her heyday but in the late 2000s, she had a lot of highly publicized breakdowns, making her fans and family worried about her state. The tumultuous phase ended when she was placed under a conservatorship, which means assigned people can make decisions for her.

It was also her father who requested Britney to be on psychiatric hold. Some law experts believe that the pop star was too young and productive to be under a conservatorship.
Ultimately, her father and attorney Andrew Wallet were assigned to handle her assets. Although the details of the matter weren’t fully revealed, every decision made must be documented. The conservatorship was said to also help Britney stay away from toxic people.
While the celebrity remained active in limelight, she noticeably took a break in 2019 to check in at a mental health facility, prompting fans to worry about her. The #FreeBritney supporters became alive again, which was further fueled by a voicemail from an alleged lawyer involved in the conservatorship.
Attorney Andrew also resigned, leaving Britney’s father as the sole conservator. Her mother, Lynne, also reportedly wanted to be involved in the matter and made a few attempts. The matriarch is also said to support the #FreeBritney movement.
