Be Yourself, Unless You Can Be A Pirate

Pirates call themselves pirates because they arrr! Maybe pirates always look angry because if you take “p” out of pirate, all you’re left with is “irate.” However, the modern stereotype of a pirate and their accent, inherited from the film industry, was invented by Disney!
It is mostly owed to the ’50s role of “Long John Silver” from the film “Treasure Island” starring Robert Newton. In reality, pirates are often seafaring lawbreakers with wives and children back home and even contribute to the well-being of their homes. They certainly do not shout “Arrr!” nearly as often too!
