Midday Doze Spurs Elephants-Held Burial
Elephants may be one of the most perceptive creatures on earth. Interestingly, they are known to have recognizable rituals to honor the dead. On many occasions, elephants have buried dead or sleeping humans or helped them when injured.
A perfect example is the case of an old Turkana woman who fell asleep under a tree and woke up to find an elephant standing over her. Soon, more elephants arrived with branches which they lay on her. Thankfully, the woman was found unharmed the following morning. Still, we won’t be seeing too many African forest elephants holding burials.
