Moment of Grief
Unfortunately for the Wilsons, their father was not to return home alive. After a period of fighting, he was among the hundreds of men who lost their lives in the war. He was brought home in a coffin covered in the national flag to show the country’s appreciation for his devotion to defending it.
The entire family was devastated, especially Dorothy and her mother, Kate, who had grown fond of John. The loss of the breadwinner affected the family in all ways. It led their mother to withdraw, and she was never to meet another man to continue her life with.
