The Iceberg That Wrecked the Ship
Frederick Fleet, the lookout on board the Titanic, played a crucial role in the ship’s tragedy, being the first person to spot the iceberg that caused its downfall. The iceberg loomed ahead, and despite the efforts of First Officer William Murdoch to steer the ship away from danger, it collided on its starboard side.
The collision triggered a chain of events, leading to the ship sinking and claiming many lives due to the freezing water, with temperatures dropping to -2°C. The ordeal lasted approximately three hours, adding to the tragedy of the Titanic and making it one of the most enduring stories in modern history.
