Technology of the Past
Harold Bride and Jack Phillips, the two radio operators from Marconi International Marine Communication Company, were responsible for managing the advanced radio equipment in the tech room on the RMS Titanic, as seen in this image. Despite having the ability to communicate through radio, the ship’s tragic sinking was partially attributed to the lack of advanced technology to detect and avoid icebergs.
Following the disaster, the shipping industry implemented stricter safety regulations and invested in improved communication and safety equipment on board ships. Today, ships are equipped with advanced technology like radar, sonar, and satellite communication to ensure safer voyages.
