Miniature Walruses

The image portrays a Bluebottle maggot under an electron microscope. Interestingly, it looks like a walrus with its tusks protruding from its face. However, the actual size of this larva is somewhere between 10 to 16 millimeters.
Even though it looks brown, its color is pale whitish. We can’t help but look with simultaneous feelings of fascination and horror. We can bet this species could easily pass as a horror film villain. It already looks a lot like that character seen on the first season of the Netflix TV series “Locke & Key.”
