Sometimes conversations about a celebrity’s personal orientation arise to understand the motivations behind their art. So it isn’t at all surprising that everyone was curious about the enigmatic image Janelle Monáe presented when she made her debut in 2010. She revealed her personal orientation to the public in a 2018 article with Rolling Stones.
While Monáe may once have revealed an attraction to men and women, as she learns more about pans*xuality and other topics that resonate with her, she admits that she’s still on a path of self-discovery. In 2021, Monáe partnered with Martell cognac as a spokesperson for its “Soar Beyond the Expected” campaign.
