Billy Eichner is no stranger to the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. In an interview with Variety, he revealed that “Love, Simon” had struck a chord with him. This was because straight people go to the movies and literally see themselves all the time, so it was unusual to have a connection to what was happening on-screen.
Thus it’s no surprise that he’s always speaking out about the need for more relatable gay characters in Hollywood. Eichner, who’s starred in “Parks and Recreation” and the 2019 remake of “The Lion King,” is a proud gay man, a fact he’s never hesitant to announce. In 2021, he acted as “Walt Whitman” in the third and final season of “Dickinson.”
