Get Up, Anton!

For some of us, we need a sidekick who motivates us. For Anton Rubinstein, his wife, Vera Tshekuanova, was just that. Rubinstein would stay in bed long after dawn. The clever trick she discovered to get him out would be to play an incomplete chord. Then, on hearing the sacrilege, Anton would get up to correct it by completing the piece.
She would strip the bed after he got up to correct her blunder to prevent him from returning to bed. The trick worked. His desire to correct minute errors like that must have contributed to why he became a renowned composer, pianist, and teacher of Tchaikovsky.
