When it is time to focus on meal preparation, having some deli meats in the fridge may seem very convenient. However, awareness of the potentially harmful ingredients hiding in those thin slices is essential. According to dietitian nutritionist and yoga instructor Megan Faletra, MS, processed deli meats often contain additives such as nitrates and carrageenan. These additives have been linked to higher risks of colon cancer.
To make a healthier choice, Megan advises using organic deli meats free from nitrates and antibiotics. The goal is to consume more protein sources that make us healthier.
