Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II – Cost: $80 Million
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II has been heralded as the “centerpiece of 21st-century global security” since its first construction in 1992. It is now a part of the air power of a total of 13 countries. The ones powered by a Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan engine, are extremely powerful and capable of reaching speeds of up to 1,200 miles per hour.
Unfortunately, the development of the F-35 has been met with considerable costs, with lifetime spending on it reaching an astronomical $1.6 trillion. Despite this, the jet has proven its worth, as in 2015, 10 F-35B model planes were declared battle-ready.
