Memories are Cherished but Not Captured 
There are numerous methods available today for preserving the memory of the deceased. We can be reminded of their memory by anything as simple as having their photograph on our phone. The Amish prioritize humility above all else and see arrogance as a threat to peace within the society. Personal things like photographs are not allowed within the home since they can draw attention to oneself.
In addition, the Amish consider pictures to be graven images, which goes against their religious beliefs. As a result, rather than possessing photos of the people they treasure and their loved ones who have passed away, they rely more on their memory.
