Björk – China

Björk, an Icelandic singer-songwriter, got into trouble for supporting the Tibetan Independence movement while performing in Shanghai. Björk, known for her charity endeavors, joins a long list of famous people who are deeply concerned about the issues of Tibetan people. During a rendition of her well-known song “Declare Independence” in 2008, she chanted “Free Tibet, Free Tibet.”
Chinese authorities did not see this favorably because their country treats every situation involving Tibet with extreme caution and promptly condemns any attempt to overthrow it. According to the statement made by China’s Culture Ministry through the Chinese news agency Xinhua, she had violated Chinese law and offended the nation’s citizens.
