Yusuf Islam – USA
Yusuf Islam, once known as Cat Stevens before converting to Islam in the 1970s, was denied entry to America in 2004 after his name was found on a U.S. government “no-fly” list. Being prohibited from entering a country just due to a name is highly uncommon.
However, it’s crucial to note that the Cat Stevens U.S. ban occurred at a time when the nation was experiencing difficulties in the wake of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks. Those were the worst years ever for Muslims wanting to enter the country. Islam, who was visiting Nashville with his daughter to record some music, expressed his disappointment.
