Mahatma Gandhi – 1942, Bombay, India – Speech to Fellow Political Leaders
Trained as an attorney at law, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mahatma Gandhi led a remarkable life that saw him advocate for nonviolent means to free India from British rule. His philosophy can be seen at work in his 1942 speech delivered at a congress meeting in Bombay.
Addressing his political leaders, he urged them to liberate their nation or “die in the attempt.” Gandhi’s statements led to his arrest, and his speech was barred from being published in the press. Still, his message reached many, and he is credited for inspiring his people to unite in the fight against colonizers.
