Severn Cullis-Suzuki – 1992, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Speech to the UN Earth Summit

Before Greta Thunberg, there was Severn Cullis-Suzuki. Then a young activist, she spoke at a United Nations event on the environment and pled world leaders to take action in the quest to save humanity and the planet from global warming. Cullis-Suzuki received a standing ovation and was even praised by Al Gore.
Her speech later became a viral hit on YouTube, where it was published under the title “The Girl Who Silenced The World In Five Minutes.” This renewed interest in Cullis-Suzuki’s words spurred an evaluation of the strides (or lack thereof) the world has made in an effort to save the environment.
