The 1964 musical movie “My Fair Lady” was based on a stage play titled “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw. According to Time Magazine, “Pygmalion” was based on “Metamorphosis,” where a man named Pygmalion falls in love with a statue of a woman.
It follows Eliza (Audrey Hepburn), a working girl with a cockney accent, and Henry Higgins (Rex Harrison), a phonetics expert who said he could teach the woman to embrace another accent. The film was such a massive hit that it earned eight Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Picture.
