Richard Nixon – 1974, White House, Washington D.C. – Resignation Speech in the Wake of the Watergate Scandal
To this day, Richard Nixon, who served as the 37th president of the United States, remains the only man of the White House to resign from his post. He attained this not-so-glorious distinction on August 9, 1974, when he addressed the nation in a televised speech to announce his resignation.
He figured significantly in the Watergate scandal and was allegedly involved in the coverup that followed the politically motivated break-in. Nixon, who was a lawyer by training, spent the decades that followed writing his memoirs. He passed away in 1994.
