John F. Kennedy – 1961, Capitol, Washington D.C. – Presidential Inauguration Speech
The beginning of John F. Kennedy’s presidency also marked a new era in American politics. And in his 1961 inaugural speech, the 35th United States president addressed the new generation, calling them to public service instead of simply asking what their country could do for them.
Kennedy’s inauguration was historic in many ways. His swearing into office was the first to have an inaugural poet, for one and the first to be televised in color, too. And to this day, his 1,366-word speech is considered among the greatest ones delivered during the 20th century.
