The “Wall Of Sorrow” Unveils The True Costs Of Stalin’s Rule
Pictured here is the “Wall of Sorrow,” an exhibition that unveiled for the first time the true and horrifying costs of Joseph Stalin’s rule. Held in November 1988, it specifically showed Soviet citizens documents pertaining to those who were sent to the Gulag, a system of labor camps where people who opposed the Communist Party were sent.
These camps were notorious for their horrid conditions and 14-hour workdays. That said, we understand why the woman with the eyeglasses in this photo was so overcome with emotion. Finding out about the suffering around 18 million people had to endure was not at all a light read, we reckon.
