The “RMS Queen Elizabeth” Ferrying Soldiers Home To New York

Having gone through all the hardships of war, we can only imagine the joy and relief the passengers of the “RMS Queen Elizabeth” felt when they caught sight of home. Here, thousands of American troops seem excited to finally set foot on New York City again after serving in Europe during World War II.
According to the website Rare Historical Photos, it took a while before these soldiers were reunited with their families upon landing though. Unlike today, they couldn’t just give their folks a heads up via phone while aboard. Instead, they likely sent a telegram to their loved ones first or just showed up home to surprise them.
