Another masterpiece from Japanese Hayao Miyazaki is the 2008 animated movie “Ponyo,” which was released in the United States in the following year. It was a commercial success, amassing over $200 million in global sales. Animated by Studio Ghibli, the story revolves around a goldfish who was trapped in a glass jar and was rescued by a boy named Sosuke.
Ponyo, a magical being, wanted to become a human being, but this had caused the imbalance of nature, prompting tsunamis and other tragedies. In the end, the children’s love for each other outweighed anything, and in return, Ponyo was stripped of her magic and became a real girl.
