The 1950 movie “Treasure Island” marked the first Disney live-action film based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel. It follows a young boy Jim Hawkins as he sets out on a journey with Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney to find Captain Flint’s treasure. Aboard the Hispaniola, the trio had faced many obstacles, including Flint’s old crew like Long John Silver.
It received mixed reviews from critics, although it may be fun to revisit a classic pirate movie in today’s setting. It became one of the most popular movies that year, even though there was a nine-minute cut to achieve a G rating.
