Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen, 1975, Rock
Nicknamed the Boss, Bruce Springsteen was one of the founding musicians of the heartland rock style that combined mainstream rock with narrative songs about American life. His 1975 album “Born to Run” featured a song of the same name and became his first worldwide single release.
Written from the first person point of view, the song entails a love letter to a girl named Wendy, where the lover expresses his passionate love for the lady. Springsteen shared that he had enormous ambitions for the song and wanted it to be his greatest rock release. Billboard referred to “Born to Run” as one of the best rock anthems for individual freedom.
