“Alright” was dropped in the perfect time of spring 2015, when the Black Lives Matter movement was at its peak. The song served as an anthem and became a significant part of the movement, with its message of hope despite challenges. People and The Rolling Stone recognized it as a unifying soundtrack of the movement.
Pitchfork even considered it the best song of the decade. Its prominence landed four nominations and two wins at the 58th Grammy Awards and recognition from the MTV Video Music Award. In 2022, Lamar performed “Alright” at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show alongside fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
