Royals, Lorde, 2013, Art pop

Lorde didn’t have to wait too long to establish a name in mainstream music because as soon as she released her debut single, “Royals,” it skyrocketed to global popularity. Fascinated with aristocracy, she wrote the lyrics in half an hour at her home and recorded the official track during a school break.
Critics acclaimed the song’s songwriting, production, and vocal performance. It dominated international charts and reached the top in the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, Italy, Sweden, and New Zealand, among others. It sold over ten million units worldwide and was hailed one of the best-selling singles in history. Its influence extends today, being often called an anthem for Millenials.
