Bill Gates – “Xanadu” Mansion
For most of the early 2000s, Bill Gates was the richest man on Earth. But having pledged most of his fortune to charity and philanthropy, his ranking has gone down in recent years. As the well-known founder behind software giant Microsoft, Gates is still worth an impressive $155 billion.
One of the most expensive things Gates owns is his high-tech, luxurious mansion in Washington. It took him seven years and $63 million to build the 66,000-square-foot compound after buying the land in 1988 for $2 million. In 2021, he raised over $1 billion for his push for clean energy in fighting against climate change.
