George Lucas – $6.5 billion
George Lucas is the creator of “Star Wars,” one of the most successful film franchises ever. He also collaborated with Steven Spielberg on the hugely successful “Indiana Jones.” In 2021, he described selling the production rights to “Star Wars” as painful, but it can’t be so bad if you’re a billionaire.
Though already worth a tremendous amount due to his previous franchises and some smart business ventures early in his career, Lucas earned a whopping $4.1 billion from selling “Star Wars” to Disney in 2012. It cemented his legacy as one of the most successful filmmakers of all time, and he’s largely retired from filmmaking since then.
