Henry Fonda – Lieutenant Junior Grade: 1942
After moderate success as an actor, Henry Fonda decided to join the fight in World War II. He did so in 1942, first working as a Quartermaster third class and rising through the ranks to Lieutenant Junior Grade. After the war, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Navy Presidential Unit Citation.
Fonda eventually starred in several war-themed movies. In the 1948 play, “Mister Roberts,” Fonda even donned his cap from his time in the Navy. His career spanned over five decades with award-winning roles in “On Golden Pond” and “The Grapes of Wrath.” His daughter, actress Jane Fonda, won the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2021.
