By the time the town council reached out to him to make the serum run, Seppala and his prized dog were advanced in years and looked to be past their prime. He was 48 years old at the time, while Togo was 12, quite an old age for any dog.
Despite this, the locals knew the facts. No other musher could achieve what Seppala and his gifted partner had mastered. They were the town’s only true hope. So on the 29th of January, he assembled his 20 best Siberians, with his trusted dog at the lead, and set off for the run that would eventually mark his and Togo’s legacy.
