No Blizzard At The Beginning Of The Run
One of the minor inaccuracies in the film that have no real bearing but could be sought out by nitpickers is the circumstance of Seppala’s departure. He left Nome in the midst of a blizzard, heading straight into terrifying danger. This moment was cinematic, and in all honesty, the producers’ decisions to add that tweak to the script can’t really be faulted, if you consider Hollywood’s tastes.
In the actual event, the area was quite calm on the day Seppala left, and there was no raging blizzard. He eventually encountered an all-too dangerous storm on the trip across the Sound, so that part wasn’t exactly fake.
