More Dog Sled Teams To The Rescue

In haste, two teams of mushers and their sled dogs were assembled to cover the distance. Naturally, Seppala’s team was among them, and he had initially thought that he would travel the lengthy distance of 630 miles alone. He had left Nome with the intention of doing so.
However, not long after his departure, Alaska’s Territorial Governor at the time, Scott Bone, authorized additional mushers to intercept him in order to save time. This brought the tally of teams that participated in the relay to 20. Despite the assistance, Seppala and his dogs, with Togo at the lead, traveled the longest distance, covering an astonishing 264 miles.
