The Serum Is Delivered To Nome
After their close shave on the Norton Sound, Seppala and the dogs continued on the trail until they reached the next roadhouse in Golovin. He passed the serum to Charlie Olsen, who continued the journey until he reached Gunnar Kaasen. It would be unfair to undermine the contributions of Kaasen and Balto to the serum run’s success.
The blizzards were so strong that Kaasen couldn’t even see the dogs running closest to him, but Balto proved his worth and guided the team to the last checkpoint. Once they got there and discovered that the next rider on the relay wasn’t prepared, they pressed on, delivering the serum to Nome themselves.
